UN MIGRANT WORKERS CONVENTION

From 24 to 28 November 2008: the UN Committee on Migrant Workers will hold its 9th session. It will review the initial report of El Salvador and will adopt lists of issues on the reports from Bosnia & Herzegovina and the Philippines.

New! On 15 December 2008, Rwanda ratifies the ICRMW!. There are now 40 ratifications.
New: 25 September 2008: Jamaica ratifies the Migrant Workers Convention.
New: Paraguay ratifies the Migrant Workers Convention, effective 23 September 2008!

April 2008: the UN Committee on Migrant Workers concludes its eight session.
It adopted concluding observations and recommendations on the initial reports from Bolivia and Syria.


Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants: On 5 June 2008, the Human Rights Council reviewed the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants during its eighth session in Geneva. The Special Rapporteur gave an oral statement to the Council. On 12 June, the Council adopted a Resolution extending the mandate of the Special Rapporteur for 3 years.
